‘Defunct fire fighting system’: Mumbai Fire Brigade to send notice to Rajshri Entertainment

(Express Photo by Sankhadeep Banerjee)A day after a fire broke out at the production studio of Rajshri Entertainment Private Limited (REPL), the Mumbai Fire Brigade Monday said that the inbuilt fire fighting system at the studio was not working when the blaze broke out and they will send a notice to its owners.
“The inbuilt fire fighting system was not working when the blaze broke out. A notice will be served to the organisation,” Ravindra Ambulgekar, chief fire officer (CFO) in the Mumbai Fire Brigade told The Indian Express on Monday.
An inbuilt fire fighting system consists of water sprinklers that sprinkles water soon after a blaze breaks out. The REPL is located on the second floor of the commercial Poonam Chambers building – opposite Atria Mall in Worli. The blaze broke out around 12 pm on Sunday and the blaze was doused almost three-and-a-half hours later.

“After the blaze erupted, the guards at the studio tried to combat the fire. However, the blaze became so intense that they had to rush out. Had the fire fighting systems been operational the blaze could have been controlled much more easily,” the official said.

The REPL is a film production and distribution company which has produced films like Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Vivah, among others.
