Decision on onion export ban on Tuesday

Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday said the demand for lifting the onion export ban would be discussed at the meeting of the Group of Ministers under him on September 20.

Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday said the demand for lifting the onion export ban would be discussed at the meeting of the Group of Ministers under him on September 20. He was speaking at a meeting attended by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan,Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar,Public Works Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and Agriculture Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil,among others.

The ministers said the ban was uncalled for and it had prompted farmers to agitate in Nashik and other parts of the state. Mukherjee said a decision would be taken at the GoM meeting. Meanwhile,wholesale onion markets in Nashik are remaining closed since September 9.
