Day after tantrum,Kasab stays away from camera

day after he spat on the video camera during the hearing of his plea against death sentence,26/11 convict Ajmal Kasab skipped the court proceedings.

A day after he spat on the video camera during the hearing of his plea against death sentence,26/11 convict Ajmal Kasab skipped the court proceedings. The prison authorities informed the court that Kasab had refused when he was asked if he would like to be taken to the video-conferencing room.

The Bombay High Court,on Tuesday, had asked the prison guards to ask if he would like to attend the hearing through video-conferencing again after he spat on the camera. The court had also said,“let him be there,if he does not want to attend the hearing, and that would calm him down and bring down his blood pressure.”

The court had directed Kasab’s lawyers to meet him on Tuesday evening to hear his grievances and explain him that he could not be brought to the court for security reasons. However,Kasab’s cousel Amin Solkar informed the court that he was not allowed to meet him by prsion officials on Tuesday evening and he had been told that no prisoner was allowed to meet an outsider after the sunset.

The division bench of Justices Ranjana Desai and R V More told the lawyers that they could meet him anytime and if at all they would be meeting him, prosecution should ensure that they get easy access.

The court has summoned Arthur Road Jail superintendent Rajendra Dhamne to be present in the court on Thursday to inform him the same. The bench told the lawyers that they could go and meet Kasab in the prison during the proceedings and ensure their juniors’ presence in the court.
