Custody of 26/11 suspects extended

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Friday got custody of Fahim Ansari and Sabahuddin Ahmed till February 5,in the case regarding their alleged involvement in the 26/11 terror attack on Trident Hotel at Nariman Point.

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Friday got custody of Fahim Ansari and Sabahuddin Ahmed till February 5,in the case regarding their alleged involvement in the 26/11 terror attack on Trident Hotel at Nariman Point.

The two were arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police for opening fire at a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Rampur. They were brought to the city from Lucknow on December 18 last year and charged in the terror attack case. The two have been accused of conducting a recce of the city and preparing maps of possible targets and submitting the same to the higher-ups in banned terror outfit Laskhar-e-Toiba (LeT).

Ejaz Naqvi,Faheem’s defence lawyer,said his client was not involved in the Mumbai terror attacks and had no links with any terror outfit. Police have framed Faheem in the case,Naqvi said.

The Mumbai police have registered 12 cases in the city in connection with the Mumbai terror attacks. The lone arrested terrorist — Ajmal Ameer Kasab — is presently in Mumbai police custody till February 2,for his involvement in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station firing case.
