To ensure MNS MLA Ram Kadam does not slip out of their hands by securing bail,Mumbai Police dug out a three-month-old case of criminal intimidation registered against him and were armed with case papers in Esplanade court. Officers said the crime branch was also exploring the options of chapter proceedings and externment as Kadam was an accused in at least 10 cases of assault, criminal intimidation and deterring public servants from discharging duties.

Thursday,as the court was hearing remand arguments against Kadam for assaulting API (traffic) Sachin Suryavanshi at Vidhan Bhawan,a detection officer with Pant Nagar police was present to seek his custody in an older case.

On January 18,BMC ward officer Mahesh Phad was allegedly assaulted by a group of women in his office after he sanctioned demolition of an illegal structure. The women also accused Phad of molestation.

Kadam was booked in the case after Phad alleged the MLA threatened him for ordering the demolition. He claimed he was attacked at the behest of Kadam.

“I was going to apply for Kadam custody in case he got bail in the case of assault on Suryavanshi,” the Pant Nagar police detection officer said.

Senior Pant Nagar police inspector Suresh Nirmal said: “We will send officers to court again on Friday, when Kadam is to be produced once again.”

The crime branch has sought papers of all cases against Kadam. “We have found 10 cases against Kadam in different police stations so far,” confirmed an officer.

“We can definitely conduct chapter proceedings under CrPC against Kadam, considering his record,” he said.

Section 107 of CrPC allows police to make people with a history of activities disrupting public peace sign a personal bond. The bond amount to be deposited with a magistrate for a specific period depends on the financial condition of the accused.
