The death of police sub-inspector Dinanath Shinde in an accident on Marine Drive on Saturday morning has come as a double blow for his family living at the Naigaon police quarters,as it has lost its sole breadwinner.
Shinde,ironically on a drive against drunk drivers,was mowed down by a woman driver who was allegedly drunk. Shinde is survived by his wife Devyani (40),son Siddhesh (13) and daughter Dipti (16).
Shindes brother in law Subhash Rane said,He had two small children and it is difficult to imagine how the family will fend for itself now that Dinanath is no more. The accused should be given severe punishment for causing this anguish to the family.
The wife and children of Shinde were so overcome by grief that they did not comment.
Higher police officials visited the Shinde family at Naigaon on Saturday afternoon.
Shinde,who was earlier with the Naigaon police control had recently been transferred to the Kalbadevi traffic police division. A source from the Bombay hospital said,The post-mortem report of Shinde states the reason of death as polytrauma. He has suffered deep injuries in the inner thighs. Shinde,who was admitted at Bombay hospitals ICU died on Saturday morning.
Afzal Ibrahim,the biker was rushed to GT hospital with his lower right leg severely injured which had to be amputated.
In spite of the severe injuries,the family shifted Ibrahim to Saifee hospital where he succumbed to injuries. His family members were unavailable for comment but it was learnt that Afzal was in the hotel business and,like Shinde,was the sole earning member of his family.
