Cop’s answer to firing denial: this man shot my boss outside Cama

“He killed my sir and I could do nothing to save him,” constable Arun Jadhav said on Friday, pointing at Ajmal Kasab who claims that he did not fire a shot outside CST on 26/11.

“He killed my sir and I could do nothing to save him,” constable Arun Jadhav said on Friday, pointing at Ajmal Kasab who claims that he did not fire a shot outside CST on 26/11.

Jadhav is the sole survivor of a gunbattle outside Cama Hospital. Those killed included three constables and officers Hemant Karkare,Ashok Kamte and Vijay Salaskar,to whom Jadhav was an assistant.

Jadhav broke down several times while detailing the attack. He contradicted Kasab’s statements, saying: “This short man shot at my boss and the other officers. I stayed still fearing he would shoot me too. I was injured and could not move my arm. He and his accomplice,a tall man, shot at us repeatedly and killed everyone before my eyes,” Jadhav wept.

Jadhav said Karkare,Kamte and Salaskar had planned to confront the terrorists at the Cama entrance. “We had taken a Qualis jeep from Pydhonie division. Salaskar and Kamte sat in front and Karkare behind. I and the other constables,Yogesh Patil,Jaywant Patil and Dilip Bhosale, too, sat in the rear seat,” he said. When the vehicle reached the lane near Rang Bhavan,a wireless message came that two terrorists were hiding in the area and Kamte asked Salaskar to slow down,he added.

The short and the tall men were hiding behind bushes,he added. “They started firing randomly till they were sure all of us were dead. Bhosale and Yogesh fell on me. I remained still. They dragged out Karkare,Kamte and Salaskar and took over the car. The tall man (Abu Ismail) started the car,the other sitting beside him,” Jadhav said. Both men got down at Vidhav Bhavan and stopped a Honda City and left, said Jadhav, who was later rescued by other policemen.

Accused by defence lawyer Abbas Kazmi of lying,he shot back,“I am not lying. I lost my boss in the attack. I still can’t sleep at night; gunshots keep ringing in my ears.”
