A police sub-inspector  posted in South Mumbai allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Sion on Monday.

Pokarnikar was found dead at his home early on Monday morning after he did not report to work. “When Pokarnikar did not report to work at 8.30 am, his superiors told another sub-inspector who lives in the same building to check on him,” said DCP (Detection) Dhananjay Kulkarni.

When the officer knocked on Pokarnikar’s front door, there was no answer, so he got a spare key from a neighbour, the police said. “However, the officer found that Pokarnikar had locked the door from inside. The officer called for help and broke down the door, only to find Pokarnikar hanging from a hook on the ceiling, with a rope around his neck,” he said.
