Constable in police net for corruption

The Anti Corruption Bureau on Saturday arrested two persons, including a constable of the Oshiwara police ,on charges of corruption.

The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday arrested two persons, including a constable of the Oshiwara police ,on charges of corruption.

An ACB official said,“Acting on a complaint we arrested Ajendra Thakur with Rs 2 lakh that he was supposed to return on behalf of a police official from Oshiwara police station to a person from Navi Mumbai against whom a case of piracy had been registered a month ago by Oshiwara police station.”

A month ago the Oshiwara police had conducted a raid for video piracy. At the time API Rajesh Padvi, who was one of the officials who conducted the raid, allegedly received a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from one of the accused who later informed the ACB about the bribe. “Alarmed at the complaint registered against him and the following enquiry Padvi allegedly decided to return the money and delegated his constable one Yeshwant Patil to handover the cash to Thakur. However,we had laid a trap and arrested Thakur who told us about Patil. At present Patil and Thakur are under arrest and enquiries are being conducted to verify Padvi’s involvement in the corruption,” added the ACB official.
