The Congress has approached the Election Commission of India (ECI) over the BJP releasing "false advertisements" to spread "rumours and misinformation" against the Congress guarantees. (File)The Congress announced on Thursday that party rebels who have not withdrawn their nominations against the official Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) candidates in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections are suspended from the party for six years.
Addressing the media, Ramesh Chennithala, Maharashtra Congress in-charge, said, “There would be no friendly contests (within the MVA) anywhere. Those who have not withdrawn their candidatures have been suspended from the party for six years.”
Among those who have been suspended are Rajendra Mulak (Ramtek), Yadnyavalkya Jichkar (Katol), Jayashri Patil (Sangli), Aba Bagul (Parvati), and Kamal Vyavahare (Kasba).
The Congress is part of the Opposition MVA alliance, which also includes Shiv Sena (UBT) and Nationalist Congress Party (SP), for the Maharashtra Assembly elections, scheduled to be held on November 20, followed by the counting on November 23.
Meanwhile, a day after the announcement of five guarantees at the MVA’s public rally, the Congress declared that president Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, All India Congress Committee general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, and other senior Congress leaders will hold rallies across the state to campaign for Congress and other MVA candidates. It was finalised in the Congress campaign committee meeting held at Tilak Bhavan in the presence of Chennithala.
Chennithala said after the meeting that Kharge will tour Maharashtra for five days, with rallies scheduled on November 13, 14, 16, 17, and 18. Rahul will hold campaign rallies on November 12, 14, and 16, while Priyanka will address rallies on November 13, 16, and 17.
“The MVA manifesto will be released on November 10 at the Grand Hyatt hotel in the presence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior MVA leaders will be present there,” said Chennithala.
Meanwhile, the Congress has approached the Election Commission of India (ECI) over the BJP releasing “false advertisements” to spread “rumours and misinformation” against the Congress guarantees.
“Some advertisements have been published in various newspapers without any attribution. The Congress will file a complaint with the Election Commission about this. In Karnataka, Telangana, and Himachal Pradesh, Congress has already started implementing the guarantees it promised, but the BJP is deliberately spreading false information,” said Chennithala.
