Even as NCP has shown willingness to contest 22 out of the 48 seats in the state during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections,ally Congress has made it clear any seat-sharing proposal will be finalised only after talks with the partys central leadership and feedback from district units.
MPCC chief Manikrao Thakre indicated that a formal decision on seat-sharing between Congress and NCP had not begun as yet since his partys central leadership was busy with Parliament session. Any decision would be taken only after consulting partys district units.
AICC general secretary in-charge of Maharashtra,Mohan Prakash,is already in the process eliciting views from party leaders from districts.
A formal decision related to seat-sharing and identification of seats would be taken after the two sides hold a joint meeting, an AICC functionary said.
NCP has gone ahead and declared they are preparing to contest 22 Lok Sabha seats,leaving 26 for Congress.
Union Industries Minister Praful Patel and senior NCP leader has conveyed to his state unit leaders that alliance with Congress is here to stay.
State NCP chief Bhaskar Jadhav said,It has been conveyed to us by Praful Patel that seat-sharing formula has been discussed. Of the total 48 Lok Sabha seats in state,NCP will contest 22.
Some in the state Congress believe NCPs image has taken a beating in Maharashtra and their party will benefit more if it contests alone this time.
In fact,Thakre and Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan are said to have received several proposals from district-level leaders asking them to take a decision to contest forthcoming elections alone.
