"This experience centre is not just a tribute to their extraordinary service but also a celebration of Mumbai’s spirit and the perfect harmony of tradition and innovation," Fadnavis stressed.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday inaugurated the Mumbai Dabbawala International Experience Centre.
The dabbawalas (tiffin delivery) has become iconic to Mumbai’s identity, with lakhs of working people utilising the service across the commercial capital and its suburbs.
Fadnavis pointed out how they are known for their efficiency, with a remarkable accuracy rate and a system that relies on teamwork, a coded system, and a combination of bicycles, trains, and walking to navigate the city.
Fadnavis termed the Dabbawala International Experience Centre as a landmark moment in the city’s unique heritage.
“The historic Dabbawala Bhavan has been beautifully transformed into a world-class experience centre where every visitor can step into the 135-year legacy of the Dabbawalas. Through modern technology and virtual reality it is possible to witness the journey of each tiffin from local kitchens to delivery across the city,” he said.
“The Dabbawalas have built their entire system without computers or AI, relying solely on human intelligence, skill, and unwavering commitment. Their management and coding practices have earned global recognition, including the Guinness Book of World Records and extensive academic research,” he said.
Fadnavis hailed their ability to carry out their work flawlessly day after day, taking leave only once a year during the Wari, reflecting the enduring Warkari tradition of dedication and service. “Their work reflects generations of dedication, discipline and unwavering service, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who witnesses it,” the CM said.
He added that at the same time, efforts were underway to improve their lives with modern homes and better amenities, well-connected to the suburban railways, so that their essential work continues smoothly.
“This experience centre is not just a tribute to their extraordinary service but also a celebration of Mumbai’s spirit and the perfect harmony of tradition and innovation,” Fadnavis stressed.
Minister Ashish Shelar, MLC Shrikant Bhartiya, MLA Yogesh Sagar, MLA Captain R Tamil Selvan and other dignitaries were present.
