Civic nod to land for Metro corridor carshed

Ram Barot,Chairman of the committee said,“We have given a no-objection certificate to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority for change of reservation.”

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) improvement committee approved on Wednesday changing reservation of a plot, marked as no-development zone,in Goregaon to construct a carshed for the much-delayed Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd elevated Metro corridor.

Ram Barot,Chairman of the committee said,“We have given a no-objection certificate to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for change of reservation.”

While the total land was about 121 hectares, the municipal corporation had okayed change of reservation only for area outside Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ),said an official.

A final nod from the state government, however,is awaited. Agreement of the private owner of the land is also yet to be received.

The second Metro line on the Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd route has been stuck for over two years for want of a car depot. The authorities have not received environmental clearance for the land originally earmarked for the depot in Charkop.
