Chhagan Bhujbal’s resignation not accepted: Devendra Fadnavis

Opposition Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Jitendra Awhad asked why Bhujbal was creating animosity within two communities.

While Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the resignation of senior minister and OBC leader Chhagan Bhujbal has not been accepted, the opposition on Sunday slammed Bhujbal, asking why was he still taking the benefits accorded to a cabinet minister if he has resigned.

Fadnavis, while speaking to reporters on Saturday night, said that the resignation of Bhujbal has not been accepted. “Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will be able to clarify,” he added.

Fadnavis’ comments came following Bhujbal’s remark at a rally on Saturday that he had resigned from the state cabinet on November 16.

Addressing a rally of OBCs in Ahmednagar on Saturday, Bhujbal said, “I want to tell leaders from the opposition, government and my party that ahead of the OBC Elgar rally held in Ambad on November 17, I had resigned from the cabinet on November 16 and went to attend the rally. I don’t need to be sacked. I have already tendered my resignation. I will continue to fight for the rights of the OBCs till the end.”

However, opposition Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Jitendra Awhad asked why Bhujbal was creating animosity within two communities. “Why is he defaming Maharashtra? Does he want the state to burn? Bhujbal is lying about the resignation. If he has given the resignation, then why is he still taking all the benefits that are given to a cabinet minister,” asked Awhad.

Maharashtra government on January 27 issued a notification of draft rules to allot Kunbi (OBC) certificate to Marathas which carried the word ‘sage-soyare’ (members of family) as demanded by Jarange-Patil. Bhujbal and other OBC leaders have opposed it saying it will compromise the 27 per cent reservation given to OBCs and will reduce the share of existing OBCs.
