He may be publicity-shy,but when it comes to launching a friend’s new album,A R Rahman makes sure he turns up,despite the media frenzy. The soft-spoken music composer was the special guest at the launch of singer Srinivas’s album,Timeless Classics, brought out by Saregama,at the Courtyard by Marriott in Andheri on Monday evening. The album is a compilation of classic ghazals by Mehdi Hasan, rendered for a contemporary audience by Srinivas, who is known for his work in films like Sapney,Dil Chahta Hai and more recently,Robot. It was a love-fest on stage as everyone there from the singer to Saregama’s music head,Adarsh Gupta, gushed about the genius of Rahman. The Oscar-winner responded by recounting his first encounter with Srinivas and their collaboration in movies like Gentleman and Sapney.

Bummer Rahman,in a rare public appearance, seemed in a good mood while sharing anecdotes about Srinivas’s music career. But as soon as the media whipped out their mics,he did a disappearing act.
