Bombay High Court seeks to know whether inspection was held before installing Shivaji statue in Malvan
Justice Anil S Kilor was hearing a bail application by Jaydeep Apte, sculptor of the 35-foot statue, filed through advocate Ganesh Sovani. Apte had approached HC after the sessions court rejected his bail plea.

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday sought to know from the state government whether the Indian Navy or state Public Works Department (PWD) held an inspection of the site at Malvan in Sindhudurg district, before installing the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, which collapsed in August this year.
Justice Anil S Kilor was hearing a bail application by Jaydeep Apte, sculptor of the 35-foot statue, filed through advocate Ganesh Sovani. Apte had approached HC after the sessions court rejected his bail plea. Justice Kilor sought details from the state government and adjourned the hearing to December 9.
Earlier this month, the HC had granted bail to a structural consultant arrested in connection with the collapse of the statue that was inaugurated on December 4, 2023, at the Rajkot Fort in Malvan.
The sessions court observed that the collapse of the statue within a few months of its construction prima facie speaks of the quality of work.
Apte, in his plea, claimed that the sessions court failed to consider that the FIR was filed in haste by a civil engineer who had no expertise in metallurgy and the case was not based on any scientific report.
