To facilitate citizens before the civic elections in February 2012,the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has,for the first time, decided to open a centralised election centre in the city. While there are seven centres across the city, citizens have to go from one to another as they are not identical in their functioning and house different departments. The new centre will be called Election Bhavan and will help the BMC plan and execute election-related paperwork systematically. The state election commission had directed the BMC to come up with such a centre. It has to be set up within the next two to four months,an official from the BMCs election department said. The present system is ineffective as some documents are in one centre and the remaining in others. Through the centralised centre, everything will be done under one roof. This will make it convenient for citizens, the official added.
