The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has undertaken work on a pilot basis to install CCTV cameras at the Vihar Lake and the Bhandup water treatment plant complex and the scheme will be extended to the Tansa and Modaksagar lakes and the Pise-Panjrapol complex depending on its utility, said Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.
The Chief Minister gave a written reply in this regard to a question by Madhukar Pichad (NCP MLA from Akole in Ahmednagar district) and others in the state Assembly on Tuesday regarding the security of the Tansa,Bhatsa and Vaitarna lakes, which supply water to Mumbai.
Chavan agreed that the work of ensuring security for the pipeline, which supplies water to Mumbai from these dams, had been given to a private security firm and added that the officials concerned from the BMC had full control over this security apparatus.
