A motorcyclist was killed and his pillion rider severely injured in an accident on the JJ flyover early on Saturday morning. The deceased has been identified as Abhishek Kadam (22) while the survivor is Mukesh Jadhav (23),both residents of the Saat Rasta area.
The police have not found any witnesses to the incident, but it has been learnt that the victims had taken the flyover despite it being out of bounds for two-wheelers and rammed the divider towards the JJ Hospital end.
According to the JJ Marg police, the incident was reported around 1.30 am on Saturday by a car driver who saw the injured men lying on the flyover. A police team was rushed to the spot and the two were taken to the JJ Hospital, where one of them was declared brought dead.
The flyover has many twists and turns. It seems the victims were driving at a very high speed and might have lost control while taking a turn on the flyover. The survivor is unconscious and we are not clear about the exact sequence of events, said Rajesh Dhanawade, senior police inspector,JJ Marg police station.
Investigations at the scene of the accident suggest that the rider lost control and rammed the divider on the flyover, throwing both men off the bike. Kadam was found lying near the bike on the CST bound lane while Jadhav was lying on the Byculla bound lane, the police said.
