Bose,a rugby player himself,started work on this auction in July. “It took me a while to get it in place,but once I met Sachin and Mahesh Bhupathi,it took off,” says Bose who plans to make this an annual event. The auction also boasts of big names like Vishwanathan Anand,Kapil Dev,Saina Nehwal,Sania Mirza,Vijay Amritraj and also international names like Shane Warne,Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova. “Sportspersons lead very traumatic lives on field,so they like to keep it simple otherwise,” says Bose.

Tendulkar,who is one of the donors,was happy supporting the cause too. “A batsman remembers every knock he has made. I am no different. I remember the knock in Christchurch. It was satisfying because I kept up a decent strike rate and India won,” says the legendary batsman. About his participation in the auction,he adds,“When Rahul approached me,I instantly said yes because working towards a society without discrimination is important to me.”

Similarly,Bindra and Anand are equally keen on bringing a smile to people’s faces. “I have been very attached to this rifle because it was instrumental in my breakthrough at the highest level. I must admit it is a little tough to give this away,but also extremely satisfying,” says Bindra.
