Throughout the week, most of Mumbai’s resto-bars resonate with loud music while a 21-year-age limit remains in force. However, every Sunday afternoon, the same places are filled with giggling children, busy painting and playing with a giant Pokémon when not enjoying their lunch. That’s because a number of the city’s nightclubs have activities along with a big brunch spread dedicated for the little ones so that Sundays can be for the family.

Blue Frog for one,has an array of fun activities, called the MiniFrog, lined up for their Sunday brunch. “Sunday is family day. Parents wouldn’t want to leave their kids at home while they have a meal. So,this is the perfect way for children to be a part of the outing,” says Priya Pereira, who plans and manages the kids at MiniFrog. To draw the regulars, they have different themes every month and the current theme is abstract art. Last week, they helped do abstract paintings while on the coming Sunday they will learn how to make abstract collages. Earlier, young visitors spent the afternoon making snowballs, snowmen and decorating Christmas trees while their family relished a long ,relaxed brunch.

Hark Rock Café too has dedicated their Sunday brunch to kids and has a special menu for children, along with child-friendly performances. They often bring in tattoo artists,hair-braiders and entertainers to keep the children busy. While their brunch is extremely popular, they recently reinvented it with the hope of attracting more kids.

Vie lounge packs in lots of entertainment for children on Sundays. This Juhu lounge bar is usually brimming with celebrities who bring in their children for some delicious meals while they can peacefully chat by the beach. “We have a lot of special activities to keep the kids busy and happy so that so that their parents can relax on their day off,” says Ananth Vaidyanathan, general manager of Vie lounge.

Celini at the Grand Hyatt takes special effort to welcome children on the weekend. They create a cordoned-off play area, install swings, slides and video games, hire nannies and serve mini-burgers,hotdogs and smiley fries to the little ones. “The concept of Sunday brunch has only started picking up in the last couple of years. Earlier,we would have only expats. But now,Indian families are warming up to the concept,” says Dinesh Varma,Assistant Director,Food and Beverage, the Grand Hyatt, who goes on to say that the recent months have seen an approximate of 25 children in their play area every Sunday.

The concept seems to be catching on so well that the Grand Hyatt is in the process of introducing newer activities to make sure that the kids have a good time. Even the comparatively newer Novotel—which opened its poolside for the Sunday brunch a month ago—has made special arrangements for children thanks to the growing appeal of baby brunch on Sundays.

So this Sunday, sit back, enjoy your leisurely meal and let someone else entertain your children.
