Baby Patankar gets interim relief from HC in cheating case

Shashikala “Baby” Patankar who has been absconding since September 30 after her anticipatory bail was rejected by the Mumbai sessions court got interim bail from the Bombay High Court on Thursday. The Mumbai Crime Branch was looking for her in connection with a cheating case.

Patankar was booked for allegedly cheating a South Mumbai-based customs clearing agent of Rs 1.98 crore on the promise of selling five kilogram gold at cheaper rates in October 2021.

Earlier, Patankar was arrested in 2015 in connection with a case of supplying mephedrone that led to the suspension of five policemen. She was eventually discharged in the case.
