Baba Siddique murder: Head constable providing security to former MLA suspended

Baba Siddique’s son Zeeshan had earlier expressed disappointment that no action had been taken against Head Constable Shyam Sonawane.

Shyam Sonawane, the head constable providing security to former Maharashtra MLA Baba Siddique, who was shot dead by three men last week, has been suspended by the Mumbai police for negligence.

Baba Siddique was shot dead on October 12 outside his son Zeeshan’s office in Bandra. Zeeshan had earlier expressed disappointment that no action had been taken against Sonawane.

Siddique enjoyed 2+1 security, which means two security personnel during the day and one during the night. Of the two security guards, one left at 8.30 pm, following which only one security guard, Sonawane, remained when the firing took place.

Zeeshan had also told the police to look into the actions of Sonawane following which his detailed statement had been recorded by the Crime Branch.

In his statement, Sonawane had said that the accused set off a smoke firecracker due to which he could not act as his vision was blurred.
