The Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm.) admissions finally started in Maharashtra after being stuck at the student registration stage for almost two months. The Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell on Monday released a detailed time-table for Pharmacy admissions in the state, along with release of the admission brochure, which indicate major changes in the admission process.

Mirroring the revised admission process for engineering admissions, regulations for Pharmacy admissions too have been revised. Starting from the admission cycle for the 2025-26 academic year, the revised structure will now conduct four Common Admission Process (CAP) rounds instead of three. With an aim to complete the maximum number of admissions through CAP rounds, there will be stricter rules for confirmation of admission on allotted seats in the first three rounds.

As per the admission schedule, the seat matrix for CAP round one will be out on September 24 and the round will begin from September 25.

While it was always mandatory for candidates to confirm admission if allotted a seat in their first choice of a preferred college, as per the admission brochure released on Monday, mandatory admission confirmation rule is further revised with new specifications for each CAP round.

As per this, the condition to mandatorily confirm admission on allotted seat will not be limited to first-preferred college. It is now extended up to three and six colleges for second and third round, respectively. This means in the first CAP round, the candidate has to confirm admission on the allotted seat if it is his/her first preferred college. But in CAP round 2, it will be mandatory for candidates to confirm admission if the allotted seat is in the first three colleges from his/her preference list. In CAP round 3, the same condition is extended up to six colleges which means a candidate has to mandatorily confirm admission if allotted seat in first six colleges from his/her preference list.

According to CET Cell officials, this is expected to reduce blocking of seats by candidates while they wait for better colleges in subsequent rounds. “Expansion of the mandatory seat confirmation rule will ensure that candidates do not keep waiting until the last round without admissions. This means the maximum number of students will have confirmed admission by the end of round three. And there will be one more round to accommodate remaining students, before the institutional level rounds begin to fill vacancies,” said the official.

The Pharmacy admissions in the state were stuck for nearly two months due to the ongoing process of approvals for new colleges. The deadline for student registration was extended multiple times and the delay has led to stress and panic among Pharmacy aspirants and colleges as admission to all other professional courses in the state are concluded.
