Assailants fire at engineer at Vashi construction site

An Engineer was injured after two unidentified persons suspected to be affiliated to the Ravi Pujari gang opened fire at an under-construction building in Sector 17 of Vashi.

An Engineer was injured after two unidentified persons suspected to be affiliated to the Ravi Pujari gang opened fire at an under-construction building in Sector 17 of Vashi on Monday afternoon. Sanjay Phatak (35),the site engineer at Shah Signature,suffered bullet injuries on his stomach and hand.

Police claim the incident occurred around 12.45 pm after two armed men walked into the office and abused Phatak and supervisor Prashant Dighe before firing at the former. After the firing,they gave Dighe a piece of paper and asked him to give it to his boss.

“The assailants claimed to be from Ravi Pujari gang and the paper contained a phone number,” said Senior Police Inspector Raosaheb Sardesai from the Vashi police station. The police have recovered two empty cartridges from the spot and said the assailants seemed to have fired from a pistol.

“The supervisor and the watchman saw them walking away,but it would be difficult to say if they had parked a vehicle outside,” Sardesai added.

Pathak was rushed to Fortis Hiranandani Hospital and is now said to be out of danger,Sardesai confirmed. According to a police officer,Nalin Shah of Shah Signature had got an extortion call in 2008 from the Pujari gang,but a case was not registered.

The police have now registered a case of attempt to murder and are trying to trace the shooters.
