(Photo: Varinder Chawla) The police on Monday produced Mohammad Chaudhary, the fifth accused arrested by the Mumbai crime branch in the Salman Khan firing case, before a special MCOCA court, which extended his custody with the crime branch for three more days.
The police told the court that Chaudhary had given them names of five other people from the Bishnoi gang , hailing from Rajasthan and Punjab, who were linked to the incident. A team from the Mumbai crime branch has already left for Punjab to track some of the accused while another team will leave in a day’s time, said police.
A police officer said, “While questioning Chaudhary, he gave us names of five people from the Bishnoi gang operating in the country who were involved in the entire plan. Some of the accused were involved in providing firearms to the other accused. We have sent one team to Punjab already to arrest some accused.”
The officer said the Bishnoi gang fixed responsibility for different aspects of the crime–from procuring firearms to supplying cash—to different people who were not known to each other.
“Even in this case, the accused who provided firearms to Chaudhary came on a bike with his face covered,” said the officer. Chaudhary is the fifth person arrested in the Salman Khan firing case, which includes an accused who died by suicide in police custody.
