The Andheri police have arrested a laundry employee for robbing a senior citizen of ornaments worth Rs 1.8 lakh. The incident took place on Friday when Ramkrishna Swaminathan,a resident of JB Nagar in Andheri (East),was at home with his wife. Sanjeev Chaudhary,who was working with Rohit Power Laundry,allegedly went to Swaminathan’s residence under the pretext of taking clothes for washing. “When Swaminathan opened the door,Chaudhary pretended to tie the clothes and gagged Swaminathan with a tape. Swaminathan’s wife rushed to the room but was threatened with a toy pistol and a knife.” She handed her gold ornaments to him. “After enquiries with the local laundry owners,we traced the accused,”said Shivajirao Deshmukh,senior police inspector of Andheri police station.

Consultant to study Gargai Pinjal projects

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will soon appoint an environment consultant to survey and study the Gargai and Pinjal water supply projects. The BMC will appoint a consultant to survey and study issues such as environmental aspects,transfer of forestland and rehabilitation of project-affected people for both the projects in order to obtain the clearance from Forest and Environmental (Wildlife) Department. A proposal to appoint M/s GSI Enabled Environment and Neographic Centre (Greensea) as consultant at an estimated cost of Rs 4.03 crore will be tabled before the civic standing committee on Wednesday,said a BMC official.
