Suspect who fled Wagle lock-up held
The Thane police on Tuesday arrested one of the four accused who had escaped the Wagle Estate police lock-up on Monday. Ganesh Bhosale was arrested from Vasai where he had gone to meet his wife. The police had launched a manhunt for the four accused,who are family,after they fled the lock-up by bending its bars.
Senior police inspector Arun Sonde from the Kalwa police said,We got to know that Ganesh had married a girl in the Pardhi community at Vasai and was likely to visit her. We immediately despatched a team to the place and nabbed him after a chase.
The police have got clues about the location of the other three,Sonde said.
The four accused were arrested by the Kalwa police on Sunday afternoon for their role in a spate of robberies in the Kalwa area. After arrest,they were sent to Wagle Estate police station as the Kalwa police station does not have adequate lock-ups. They were supposed to be produced before the magistrate court on Monday morning. The three absconding are Ashish Bhosale,Nitin Bhosale and Vijay Bhosale.
Railway employee suffers burns
A Western Railway employee suffered 15 per cent burns on his hands and legs while demonstrating rescue techniques at Mahalaxmi workshop on Tuesday morning. Sham Rao Desai,50,was giving a demo at a function organised to mark the last day of civil defence week.
RN Verma,General Manager,Western Railway,was the chief guest at the function. Desai suffered burns when he set a hut-like structure on fire and demonstrated how to save a person caught inside the hut. He was immediately rushed to Jagjivan Ram Hospital,where he is reported to be out of danger.
Desai is an employee of vadodara division of Western Railway and is an expert in such techniques. During the civil defence week,which is held annually,interested candidates are trained in fire fighting,first aid and rescue techniques.
Baig in ATS custody till December 10
The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the Maharashtra Police on Tuesday took custody of Arif Mirza Aslam Baig from Crime Branch in an arms case in which the police had earlier arrested Abdul Samad.
Baig was initially arrested by the Crime Branch in November 2009 from Dreamland Cinema in Girgaum after he was deported from Colombo for overstaying. Baig,who has been behind bars ever since is accused in several murder,attempt to murder and extortion cases. The ATS told the court that they want to investigate the role of Baig in the firearm supply case. Baig has been booked under sections of the Arms Act. The court remanded Baig in ATS custody till December 10.
Samad,who was arrested from Mangalore on May 24 for allegedly supplying firearms to three persons Hajimran Gulman Mohammed,Afzal Ahmed Sheikh and Suleman Mohammed Patel had named Baig during his interrogation. The trio was arrested from outside Sadhna Hotel in Mazgaon in August last year with a revolver and six cartridges.
Samad,who was earlier shown as a prime accused in the case,was later granted bail by the sessions court on June 15. Soon after the arrest of Samad,Union Home minister P Chidambaran said that he is the prime suspect in the German Bakery blast case but it was denied by the ATS.
CR introduces 12-car services on harbour line
Central Railway has introduced 12-car services on the Thane-Vashi/ Nerul/ Panvel Trans Harbour line on Tuesday onwards. Initially,there will be 24 twelve-car services daily including 10 between Thane-Nerul,8 between Thane-Vashi and 6 between Thane-Panvel.
The total number of 12-car services run daily on Central Railway has increased from 681 to 705.
