Arjit shocks top-seed

Lanky Arjit Bose used aggression and caution in good doses while outwitting top seeded Amit Kshatriya 21-18,13-21,21-15 in an hour long battle of attrition to bag the mens singles title in the MCF Silver Jubilee Open Badminton tournament,held at Mandpeshwar Civic Federation courts at Borivali on Monday

It was a day when Amit,who usually likes to be aggressive,was at the receiving end as Arjit attacked tellingly right from the first game,which he led right through to win it at 21-18. However,as the players switched over the sides,their fortunes too turned around and Amit wisely sprayed his shot to far corners and his deceptive netplay too was quite effective as he took the tie to the decider.

With India No.1 junior Harsheel Dani,egging him from the sidelines,Arjit relentlessly attacked. In between he punctuated his strokes with crosscourt drop shots to clinch the tie.

Sharing the final days honours with Arjit were Thane girl Vallari Bukane, who defeated junior Kalpita Sawant 21-15,2113 and Mumbai Suburbs Deep Rambhia,who had to fight all the way before he got the better of Kolhapurs Nikhil Wadekar 21-12,19-21,21-10.

Incidentally,both Vallari,who has been coached by Shrikant Vad and Deep ended up with a double each,winning their respective womens and boys doubles finals as well on a day of upsets.
