Ansari’s voice with forensics lab,handler’s in court; test waits

The handler’s call had come from the Lashkar control room in Pakistan and intelligence agencies had chanced upon it. He had said,“Huqumat yeh jaan le yeh trailer hai,asal film baaki hai” (Let the administration know that this is only the trailer,the film is yet to come). The Crime Branch made Ansari repeat these words last week for the sample.

For the voice spectrogram,his latest sample need to be matched with the original copy of the intercept. According to procedure,the Crime Branch will have to approach the court for the samples,which are now part of the evidence in the case. It will have to convince the court that the tests are necessary for investigation and cannot be conducted without the originals. Crime Branch sources said they would make the request within three days.

In the intercept,the handler who investigators suspect was Ansari is heard using Hindi words such as ‘prashasan’,and instructing the gunmen to identify themselves as the ‘Deccan Mujahideen from Hyderabad’. He also instructs them to put forward demands such as withdrawal of security forces from Kashmir,a mosque at the site of the Babri Masjid,and the handing over of “Muslim states to Muslims”.
