Tests to match the voice of 26/11 suspect Zabiuddin Ansari with the recording of that of a Lashkar-e-Toiba handler have been put on hold.
Ansaris voice sample has been sent to the state Forensic Science Laboratory in Kalina, which is to match it with the handlers voice recorded at Nariman House during 26/11. The original 26/11 intercepts, however, are with the trial court that sentenced attacker Ajmal Kasab. The Mumbai Crime Branch has a duplicate but only after it procures the original will the lab conduct the planned voice spectrogram test that will seek to establish a match.
For the voice spectrogram, his latest sample need to be matched with the original copy of the intercept. According to procedure, the Crime Branch will have to approach the court for the samples, which are now part of the evidence in the case. It will have to convince the court that the tests are necessary for investigation and cannot be conducted without the originals. Crime Branch sources said they would make the request within three days.
In the intercept, the handler who investigators suspect was Ansari is heard using Hindi words such as ‘prashasan, and instructing the gunmen to identify themselves as the ‘Deccan Mujahideen from Hyderabad. He also instructs them to put forward demands such as withdrawal of security forces from Kashmir,a mosque at the site of the Babri Masjid, and the handing over of Muslim states to Muslims.
