A few days after 26/11 Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Muzammil Butt received a call from a Pakistan army official directing him to clear out the terror outfits Bait-ul-Mujahideen office near Muzaffarabad and other camps before raids were conducted on them, terror suspect Syed Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal has allegedly told Mumbai Police Crime Branch interrogators.
Crime Branch sources also said that during interrogation,Ansari gave a detailed account of how the Pakistan Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) conducted a farcical raid on the Bait-ul-Mujahideen base and allowed those arrested to stay at a guest house without any major restrictions.
Ansari has revealed that on December 1,2008,Butt was contacted by the Pakistan army and told to vacate the Lashkar camps and headquarters such as the Bait-ul-Mujahideen base. He was informed that raids would soon take place, said a Crime Branch officer, who did not wish to be named.
He (Ansari) also described how the FIAs raid on Bait-ul-Mujahideen camp later was merely a farce, and how FIA officials treated those present in the camp in a friendly manner. While Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi,Muzammil Butt,Abu Al Qama and Zarar Shah were rounded up,they then stayed at a guest house and had access to whatever they required. There were no restrictions imposed on them, said the officer.
Crime Branch sources also said Ansari has named some Lashkar operatives of Indian nationality with whom he interacted in Pakistan.
Ansari has provided us details of Indians he interacted with at Lashkar camps, and of who are involved in terror cases. However, these names are merely aliases,as he did not know their real identities despite some of them being from Beed, said the officer.
He has named Abu Sherjil and Abu Zarar believed be from Beed. He has also named Abu Musab from Jammu, who is involved in the May 2006 Aurangabad arms haul case. Another name is Abu Jaid alias Lal Baba, believed to be involved in a plot to target the Nashik Police Academy, the officer added.
