Calling the INDIA meet in Mumbai “agendaless”, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said that “even if 100 political parties come together under the INDIA front, they “would not be able to dislodge PM Narendra Modi’s good governance and goodwill amongst the people”.

The two-day meeting, comprising 28 political parties and 63 representatives, commenced in Mumbai on Thursday. Top leadership of mainstream and regional parties have come together ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“The INDIA meeting is without any definite agenda. At the outset, a group of political parties may have come together to project a united front. But, the reality is they are agendaless… Their only concern is to oust PM Narendra Modi. They have nothing to offer to the people of the country. They have neither concrete strategy nor plank on which they want to challenge the Centre-led by the BJP,” Fadnavis told mediapersons in Nagpur on Thursday evening.

“The fact is Modi lives in people’s mind and heart. When Modi has the people’s support, how can a group of parties dislodge him? Why only 28 parties? Even if 100 parties come together, they will not be able to dislodge the PM as long as he elicits support from the people,” explained the deputy CM.

“In the last nine years, Modi has relentlessly pursued people-oriented policies and politics. Through the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, the Centre has made benefits reach the poor. There are special schemes for farmers, which have been enforced across the country. The fruits of the developmental agenda pushed by the Modi-led government are inclusive. And people are wise enough to know it,” Fadnavis stressed, adding that “no matter whatever the INDIA says or does, it could never dilute or wipe out the good governance of the Modi government”.

Highlighting the sharp differences within the INDIA, Fadnavis said, “Till now, at least five political parties have projected five leaders as the next PM candidate. There is no consensus within the INDIA on leadership and PM candidature.”

Earlier in the day, state BJP president Chandraskhekhar Bawankule equated the INDIA to a “pack of animals”, while indicating “it was not meant to be derogatory, but to describe the herd mentality of the Opposition, whose sole agenda was being anti-Modi”. “All the parties in INDIA are fighting for political survival. Their only objective is to save their own outfit and family, it has vested interest. Whereas, Modi is only serving the country and the people.”

“The common minimum agenda of the INDIA is to defeat PM Modi,” said senior BJP cabinet minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, adding that “the larger problem being, they have nothing concrete to offer to the people”.
