Chandrakant Ahire (35),who was arrested on Thursday on charges of beheading his wife and child, has told police that he had been getting visions for the past 15 days that he would be killed, and that he committed the murders fearing nobody would take care of his family if he was killed. However, the police are reluctant to believe his claims and suspect that he killed his wife as he suspected her of having multiple affairs with the men in his locality.

According to the officers of Nalasopara Police Station,Ahire had beheaded his wife Sanchita (25) and two-year-old daughter Vaishnavi on Thursday afternoon. Police Inspector Shriram Koregaonkar of Nalasopara Police Station said Ahire had confessed to have killed his wife and daughter only because he did not want to leave them alone after his death. “In his statement,Ahire said he was getting visions that he would be killed,” said Koregaonkar.

Officers investigating the case said Ahire came home on Thursday morning after night shift. He had food after which the couple started fighting as Ahire suspected that Sanchita was having affairs with men in their locality. In a fit of rage Ahire, who was in an inebriated state took a kitchen knife and slit the neck of his daughter, who was sleeping. When Sanchita howled seeing her daughter’s severed head,Ahire stabbed Sanchita and slit her neck too.

Police said after killing his wife and child,Ahire had even tried to slit his neck and bang his head against the wall. He was saved as his neighbours kept on knocking his door. “We produced Ahire in the court on Friday. He was remanded in judicial custody. He is now a hospital as he suffered injuries. Once he is out of the hospital,we will produce him in court seeking custody,” Koregaonkar said. “Ahire is suffering from mental problems. We will seek a psychiatrist’s help,” said a police officer.
