(File photo)THE MUMBAI police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons for sabotaging an 18-year-old city student’s visa application to Poland by allegedly sending the Polish Embassy an abusive email by accessing his email ID.
Eventually, the Polish Embassy rejected the visa application of Hiren S, a Ghatkopar resident. The police are checking if someone known to him with access to his email password sent the mail or if it was some hacker.
Senior inspector Santosh Ghatekar of Parksite police station in Vikhroli said they have registered an FIR against unidentified accused. “We are trying to find out if some hacker accessed his mail address or someone was trying to sabotage his visa application. The probe is at the initial stage,” he said.
According to the police, Hiren had got admission at the Poznan University of Medical Sciences (PUMS) in Poland for studying MBBS. Following this, he submitted a visa application to travel to Poland recently. Later when he was checking his mail, he found that on September 17 at 11.25 pm, from his ID an abusive email had been sent to the Consulate General of Poland that mentioned derogatory things about their country.
He found another mail from his ID at 11.26 pm sent to the PUMS official email ID, which again mentioned obscene things. He realised that someone was trying to sabotage his attempts to go to Poland. Next day around 8.37 am, he received an email from the Polish Embassy that his visa request had been rejected.
Hiren then took a printout of the emails and approached the local Parksite police station in Vikhroli, where based on his complaint an FIR was registered. Ghatekar said so far no arrests have been made in the case as yet.
