Absconded in so many cases: Court while denying bail to Anil Jaisinghani

In its detailed order rejecting bail to bookie Anil Jaisinghani, the special court said that since he had absconded in many cases filed against him, it was not a fit case to enlarge him on bail. Jaisinghani was arrested last month in connection with the alleged blackmail and extortion of Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

On April 1, the court had rejected the bail plea of Jaisinghani while allowing the bail plea of his cousin Nirmal. “…Taking into account the pendency of several cases against the present accused (Jaisinghani) and considering the facts that the accused has absconded in so many cases filed against him, therefore it is not fit case to enlarge present applicant on bail at this stage,” said Special Judge D D Almale.

Jaisinghani’s lawyer had said that since the court had granted bail to his daughter, Aniksha, in the same case, he could also be considered for bail on grounds of parity. Jaisinghani is currently in Madhya Pradesh after the court allowed his transit remand plea filed by the police in connection with an Excise Act case.
