Two abandoned boats created panic among fishermen in Vikhroli Monday morning.

Fishermen in Kannamwar Nagar,Vikhroli (East),told police at 9 am Monday a suspicious fishing boat had docked in the marshes behind Bhimchaya slum.

“The fishermen told us the boat was new in the locality and possibly belonged to someone from outside Mumbai. It had been lying there for the past two days. We sent a team to inspect the boat,” said Mahipat Indalkar, senior inspector.

Police said the boat — Sagar Samrat — was 18 feet long and made of fiberglass. “We found that the boat is registered in Alibaug and have sent a team there. We found nothing in it,” Indalkar said.

Police recovered the second boat at 9 pm.

“It is made of iron and I suspect it is used for sand dredging. It was recovered 3 km off Vikhroli. Nothing was found in it. The boat does not bear a registration number and I do not know who left it there,” he said.

Police said they were probing all angles. The ATS was also involved in the probe, they added.
