From hip-hop to the classical-meets-contemporary dance,the Parks New Festival that starts today,promises to entertain one and all
After touring Delhi and Kolkata,the fifth edition of Parks New Festival is coming to Mumbai. The festival that celebrates contemporary performance and art,will feature a hip-hop performance by new-age group DNOAX,a theatre performance by artist Maya Krishna Rao and a dance performance by New York-based Parijat Desai Dance Company.
DNOAX (Desi Number One Artistes X) will kickstart the festival today with their hip-hop performance at the Blue Frog.
Hyderabad-based Meghraj Arvind or Megh uh Watt,one of the performers,promises a different show. Were performing our originals such as Bhool na jana,which were released in 2007. The covers are limited to numbers by Jay-Z,Alicia Keys and Linkin Park, he says.
This will be followed by Maya Krishna Raos performances on September 10 at the NCPA Experimental Theatre. Rao will perform Quality Street,an adaptation of a short story by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie,playing the role of a harried mother and her daughter at the same time. She will also perform The Non Stop Car-Food-Clothes-Feel-Good-Show that gives glimpses of the urban citizens idiosyncrasies and obsessions. I will be presenting these two shows for the first time in Mumbai, she says.
The last leg will see Parijat Desais Dance Company put up its first-ever performance in the city on September 12 at the same venue. Desais both shows,Make Space and Songs To Live For,are a blend of Bharatnatyam and contemporary American dance.
The festival will also travel to Hyderabad (September 13-15),Bangalore (September 16-18),and Chennai (September 21-25).
