The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Sunday arrested eight persons for their alleged involvement in stabbing one Dilip Salat and throwing him out of a running train on September 17 near Karjat. According to the railway police,Baroda-based Dilip Kalu Salat (30) had boarded the Pune-Baroda Verawal Express from Pune along with his wife,Mala,two brothers and other family members on Thursday evening. The Salats were sitting in the general compartment,when three men sitting on the other started teasing them. The argument turned ugly after one of the men passed lewd comments at Dilips wife. The brothers then got into a fight with the trio. The men assaulted Salat brothers and took away their tickets and money. The Salat brothers got off at Lonavala station and approached a railway police force (RPF) booth to seek help. On seeing this,the accused ran to the other compartment, said an official. At Karjat station,four to five armed men,who were allegedly called by the three accused,boarded the train and assaulted the brothers with swords and threw Dilip out of the moving train. The accused also assaulted few other passengers before getting off at Kalyan station. The family later filed a complaint with the Kalyan railway police. Dilips body was found in two pieces on the railway tracks between Badlapur and Vangani stations, said Deputy Commissioner of Government Railway Police Qaisar Khaleed. Investigations with hawkers who sell refreshments on trains helped the police trace the accused. The arrested men have been identified as Irfan Shaikh (18),Lala Sher Ali (20),Ganesh Gaikwad (19),Sunil Pudhari (17),Bholenath Jadhav (21),Sachin Divekar (17),Rahul Lingam (19) and Lakhan (18).
