65-year-old dies at Dadar pool

Less than two months after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation-owned Dadar swimming pool was inaugurated after renovation,a senior citizen died of heart attack while swimming on Tuesday morning. Mohammed Ali Kazir Morkas (65),a resident of Marine Lines,swam one lap at 6.45 am and started feeling uneasy. He was rushed to Hinduja Hospital,where he died of a heart attack. Officials denied that he had died of drowning and said enough lifeguards were present at the spot when the incident occurred.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner (swimming pools) Suhas Karvande said Morkas was an old member and a regular swimmer. “He was not a new member. He has been coming to the pool since many years and knew swimming well. On Tuesday morning,soon after he entered the pool,he started feeling uneasy and signaled the life guards to help him out of the pool. He was rushed to the Hinduja Hospital,where he was declared dead. The cause stated was heart attack,” he said. He added that 15 lifeguards were present at the spot when the incident occurred.

A swimming pool official said that Morkas used to come with a group of senior citizens who used the pool on a daily basis.
