It was after contacting his bank and probing a bit that he found that some other person had been using a vehicle on which he put up an illegal vehicle registration number that actually belonged to his car. The senior citizen then approached the local police where an FIR was registered.

On August 25 last year, the complainant received a message from his bank that Rs 155 had been deducted from his fastag account at the Nagpur bypass toll plaza. Over the next few months, there were a total of 12 similar transactions from toll plazas ranging from Nashik, Arjunhalli in Karnataka and Nagpur.

Eventually in December, he wrote to the bank complaining about the issue. Even after that till January 4 this year there were three more transactions made using his fastag. Eventually, the bank wrote back to him saying they had footage of another vehicle that was using the same registration number using the fastag at a toll plaza.

Realizing that someone was illegally using his vehicle’s registration number to use the fastag, he approached the local Parksite police station where an FIR was registered against the unknown vehicle driver on charges of cheating and forgery.

An officer said that they have begun investigation in the matter and are trying to track the owner of the vehicle to place him under arrest.
