A 26-year-old actor died after he had to be rushed to hospital during the performance of a play at Prithvi Theatre on Thursday. Rushil Sharma was acting in the play Gadha aur Gaddha, directed by Naseeruddin Shah. During the second performance of the night, he experienced pain in his chest, said the play’s producer, Jairaj Patil

After managing to complete his major scene in the first half of the play, Sharma told Patil of his discomfort. Patil immediately accompanied him to a clinic nearby around 10 pm, where Sharma collapsed, Patil said.

The doctor there told them to go to the closest hospital, and Patil carried Sharma in his car to the Bharatiya Arogya Nidhi Hospital — barely five minutes away. However, at the hospital, Sharmwa was declared brought dead. After a post-mortem, doctors concluded that he died of a heart attack.

Sharma was from Delhi and had also worked in Australia for a few years before moving to Mumbai to pursue a career in acting. He had been a part of Gadha aur Gaddha since it premiered last year. His mother, grandmother, and sisters have come to Mumbai, and he will be cremated at the Oshiwara crematorium on February 13, Patil said.
