THE MUMBAI police probe into the case of a 22-year-old who sneaked into IIT and attended lectures for 20 days has found nothing suspicious so far. Police believe that the accused Bilal Ahmed Teli was interested in learning about technology and got into the institute so that he could attend lectures related to his subject of choice. Police further said that he had created 21 e-mail addresses as he wanted to create social media content. Teli will be in the custody of the Mumbai crime branch till July 7. An official said, “A week into the investigation, we have not found any suspicious motive behind Teli sneaking into the IIT. After doing his HSC, he had done a diploma course in IT and was earning a decent salary. He, however, wanted to get into IIT and unable to find a way, he sneaked in.” The official added that while the investigation in the case will continue and they are awaiting some forensic reports, so far nothing suspicious has come to the fore. Police also went through his social media accounts and found that he was an active user. “That also explains why he had created so many e-mail addresses as he would create different social media accounts and link it to a new ID,” the official added. Teli had entered the Powai IIT campus on May 27, while attending a one-day course that was open to all. He, however, stayed back and attended lectures in the institute. While he left for three days to go to Surat, he returned and was in the campus till June 17 when the authorities finally found out he was an outsider and reported him to the Powai police. The FIR was later transferred to the crime branch that arrested him on June 25. He was produced before the court and remanded to police custody for two weeks.
