2010 Marine Lines road accident convict Nooriya Haveliwala dies of cardiac arrest

India-born US national Nooriya Haveliwala, who was convicted of drunken driving and mowing down two people in 2010, died at a Mumbai hospital earlier this week.
After completing her sentence, Haveliwala was living with her mother in Colaba. She had reportedly slipped into depression and was undergoing treatment. Haveliwala was also scheduled to undergo a surgery. But earlier this week, she suffered a cardiac arrest and breathed her last, a source said.

The police had filed a chargesheet against Haveliwala for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, causing grievous hurt, rash and negligent driving, and under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
The trial against her commenced in March 2012, and arguments concluded in October 2012.
Haveliwala was acquitted of charges under the NDPS Act but was convicted and sentenced to five years of Rigorous Imprisonment by a special court for mowing down two people while driving her SUV under the influence of liquor.
