Two accused in the bribery case involving chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes Buta Singh’s son,Sarobjot, were pardoned by a special court last week after they turned approvers.

Dhukh Singh Chauhan and Madan Singh Solanki were pardoned by Special CBI Judge S P Hayatnagarkar.

In December last year, both the accused had confessed to their role in taking bribe from a Nashik -based contractor for closing a case against him pending before the National Commission for Scheduled Castes headed by Sarobjot’s father Buta Singh.

The statements were recorded before a local Magistrate under section 164 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

With both the accused having been pardoned, the statements will now be used as witness statements in the trial against Sarabjot.

According to prosecution,Sarobjot had allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 1 crore from a Nashik-based contractor for closing a case against him pending before the National Commission.

Sarabjot was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on July 31 last year and is out on bail at present. According to the confession and the prosecutions case, the bribe amount was allegedly handed over to Solanki in Chauhan’s garment shop.
