The Mankhurd police on Sunday arrested two men and detained one for allegedly assaulting an on-duty police constable with bamboo sticks when they were asked to move their handcart on Saturday.
Ali-Hussain Shaikh (20) and Aarif Sayyed (19) were arrested and a 17-year old was detained until police found out that he was a minor. Police said,the incident took place near the P M G P Colony around 8 pm on Saturday.
The constable,Dhondiba Pagare (52),had asked the three to move their handcart as it was blocking traffic. An argument was ensued. The accused then took a stick and then hit Pagare on the head, senior police inspector Shankarsingh Rajput said,adding,they tried to escape,but were nabbed. Pagare was rushed to Shatabdi Hospital where doctors had to give him five stitches and is still recuperating from his injuries,police said.
Police have booked two of the three persons for assaulting Pagare. We have booked Ali-Hussain and Aarif under Sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapon) and 114 (being an abettor to an offence) of the IPC, Rajput said.
