A week after the Thane Crime Branch arrested two people from Delhi for allegedly duping a Badlapur-based orthopaedic surgeon under the pretext arranging a donor for his father’s kidney transplant, the duo were produced before a magistrate’s court in Thane on Monday.
The accused, identified as Kaif Khan (27) and Neha Mehra (33), had pretended to be coordinators of a medical website that the complainant had searched for a kidney donor.

“Khan and Mehra responded to a search request by the complainant and asked him to come to Delhi, saying they had found a donor for a fee Rs 20 lakh,” said a Thane city police spokesperson. The complainant gave the accused an advance of Rs 5 lakh and came back to Mumbai.
“When he did not get a response from the accused, the surgeon approached police,” the spokesperson said.
