Taking a strict view,State Health Minister Madan Mohan Mittal announced that the government will not “tolerate those involved in adulteration of food items. Adulterated food items are a huge danger to the health of people and those found guilty of the same will not be spared at any cost.” Mittal was in the city on Wednesday to inaugurate a building at the local Civil Hospital.

In another major announcement,the minister said,“After August 15 we will station women doctors at all the female jails of the state so that the inmates can get proper treatment. At the same time I have asked all civil surgeons to ensure that proper medical care and assistance is extended to the women and children patients coming to their clinics every day.”

Appreciating the state government’s efforts,Mittal said,“With 108 ambulances criss-crossing the state,we have been able to ensure that the number of deliveries being done in hospitals is on the rise. This ensures that the deliveries are safer and at the same time the benefits that the state government gives to women on coming to hospitals for deliveries also reaches them.”

Commenting on the issue of combating the menace of drugs,Mittal said,“The state government is setting up de-addiction centers in places like Amritsar,Patiala,Jalandhar,Bathinda and Faridkot. The doctors who will work here will first be trained at PGI,Chandigarh,to ensure that we provide the best possible services to the youth who come forward to give up addiction once and for all.”

During his visit,the minister also attended a seminar organised by senior citizens.
