Masaba who made her debut as a Gen Next Designer in the internationally famous Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) Summer Resort 2009 said,“I wanted to be a singer, but during my graduation,I recognised my skills as a fashion designer when I got three prestigious awards I decided to venture into the field.” She was in the city to meet the International Institute of Fashion Design students.

Masaba who has also won the award for “The most promising designer’ said,“Fashion designing is a combination of art and business.” Answering to a query asking for suggestions she wanted to give to people who wear any dress irrespective of their physique, she said,“One should understand one’s body first and dress up accordingly. It is not necessary that what suits Kareena and Katrina, should also suit you.”

Daughter of the well-known veteran actress Neena Gupta and former West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards presented her collection “Chhalni” in LFW summer resort wear 2010. She also showcased her collection named “Fitoor” in Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2010. Both her presentations in the two grand fashion weeks have been much appreciated.

She said,“My mentor and guide is Wendell Rodriques,a well-know fashion designer. He has been motivating me since beginning. I had the flair for fashion and liked the journey and kept on moving deep into it. And now it has become an inseparable part of me.”

She said the inspiration to create her collections comes from the surroundings she lives in and the people she meets when she is travelling. She also guided students that there was a lot of competition in the industry but if they are able to think out of box, they have almost won the battle.
