DC makes surprise checks in villages
Two days after Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari conducted a surprise check at various government departments in Ludhiana,he made similar visits to several villages on Saturday. Among the villages he visited today were Jhande,Threeke,Baddowal,Gahuar,Aligarh,Pauna and others. At Baddowal,eight of the total 23 teachers were found absent from the school. Tiwari told the principal that on any given day not more than 20 per cent of the staff should take leave. In Jhande,after one person complained about poor drinking water supply,Tiwari ordered the public health engineer to immediately solve the problem. The DC also approved a project for setting up a gym at the village after some boys complained about the lack of such a facility there. The DC pulled up the teachers of a school at Threeke after students failed to answer most of his questions.
SAD councillor attacked
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) councillor Tanvir Singh Dhaliwal was attacked by a group of unidentified persons near Khanna on late Friday night. Dhaliwal,who is still unconscious,was hit with hammers on his legs and feet and had to undergo surgery,said his brother Rupinder Singh. He said the police have not yet registered FIR because they are yet to record his statement. The councillor was found unconscious in his car on the roadside between Bija village and Manji Sahib Gurudwara. Who attacked him will become clear once he recovers, said Singh.
Brace for traffic diversion today
Traffic will be diverted on Sunday afternoon for Jagannath Rath Yatra,which will begin from Durga Mata Mandir and conclude at New Durga Mandir at Sarabha Nagar. Traffic from Ferozepur road to Lodhi Club Road will be diverted towards Pakhowal Road. Light vehicles will be allowed to pass through Bhai Bala Chowk,Hero Bakery Chowk,Pakhowal road,Lodhi Club. The restrictions will continue till late evening.
