With just a few hours left, maestro Paramjot Singh is all set to break the Guinness Book of World Records of marathon 14-day tabla playing. If everything goes as per the plan,he will break the record at 11:30 am on Sunday at Gurdwara Sri Dukh Niwaran Sahib by playing tabla for more than 301 hours at a stretch.
Jagmohan Singh, father of this government schoolteacher said,”The record will be broken at 11:30 am but he will continue playing tabla till 5pm as the gurdwara committee has organised a special prayer.”
Looking tired yet confident,Paramjot has been playing tabla on different ‘shabads’ at the gurdwara since April 5. His target is to break the record of Kujhalmannan G Ramkrishnana of Kerela, who played Mridang non-stop for 301 hours in August 2008.
“Paramjot had taken four months leave from the school to practice for the event. He first practiced at home for 12 days and then decided to break the world record. He is very close to his target. We are thankful to God for being a source of inspiration for him,” said the elated father.
Mother Devinder Kaur said,”He took his first break after 28 hours. And afterwards he used to take break of two hours in a day. It was indeed a difficult task, but his dedication, determination could get momentum with blessings of God,friends, relatives and managing committee of gurdwara.”
She further said that family members, friends and relatives encouraged him a lot. She said,”I did not sleep for all these 13 nights as Paramjot used to feel sleepy during the night. To keep him awake,I too had to sacrifice my sleep.”
Paramjot, who will celebrate his 30th birthday on April 23,wants to take a long rest after breaking the record. A father to a little angel, his wife and daughter, were by his side during the daytime to boost his morale.
